Blog / 2019 / Scatter Your Flowers

Matthew Cottrell June 12, 2019

“Scatter Your Flowers” was inspired by the 5th line in a poem by Mary Oliver, Flare. “Scatter your flowers over the graves, and walk away. Be good-natured and untidy in your exuberance.” This line captures what I am trying to create more of with my art and aspire to in my life. To remember the past with love and reflection, be the best person that I can be to myself and others, and be open to letting things get a little messy and adventurous from time to time.

2019, 24”x48”, acrylic on canvas, sold.
