This is the perfect time to be creating! Everything is changing in faster and bigger ways. Which can be very exciting, scary and unsettling. What can I do? Well, I can do what brings me joy and create! The act of creating, whatever that may be, is helpful towards bringing about the world I’d like to see and especially one that I’d want to live in and share with others.
As an artist I love to paint on canvas with acrylic paints. I love to explore new surfaces to paint on and new objects to use as a tool to apply or remove paint. Bringing a bit of nature inside I painted a pine cone with some of my gold paint and recently I used a crow feather that was found on one of my walks to paint some interesting lines.
Beyond painting I’ve been creative in other ways. I like to be a steward of the land and pick up trash whether in my neighborhood or while out hiking in nature. On my recent hike I picked up some discarded items (minus the wire and glue) and made the cool paint brush you see above which I can’t wait to actually use!
I’ve sewn gold colored thread to make zig-zag stitches to repair tears in my old jeans. These are now my Wabi-Sabi or Kintsugi pants.
Just the other day I helped to support a fellow artist friend who creates his own clothing in his store, N’kossi, by purchasing 2 very colorful and fun African print fabric baseball caps that fit my big head!
I decided to make this purchase because that morning I sold one of my art pieces online to someone who has been following my posts. I wanted to pass that energy right along in a meaningful, fun and creative way.
And finally, this pink animal hat found dirty and flattened in the street, now cleaned, is being used decoratively as a spare toilet paper cover in my bathroom that I get to look at everyday.
There are so many things we can do to be creative. There are so many things we can to do to bring new potential and inspiration into this world. These are just a few of mine. What are yours?
Create and share!
Much love,
Doe
